June 9, 2025

Editor's Note: This is a series of stories about Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ» students, alumni and community members, highlighting their experiences during our 125th anniversary celebration. We will feature 125 individuals from August 2024 to August 2025.
MACOMB, IL - - Morgan Bjorkman, a recent broadcasting and journalism graduate, feels deeply connected to the Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ» community.
"When I think about WIU, I think about how it's my second home," Bjorkman said. "I love the community here. I love all of the friendships I have made in the 2 years I have been here."
For Bjorkman, being a Leatherneck means belonging to Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»and living college life on a different level.
"Being a Leatherneck means you are part of WIU," Bjorkman said. "Our college experience is unique and different from other colleges. And I love that."
Among her Leatherneck memories, Bjorkman's favorites are when the Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»community got together to have a good time and share interests.
"My favorite memories are all the activities like Rocky After Dark and anything that gets students involved," Bjorkman said. "I also love the Rec Center community. The gym community is something special."
As a student, Bjorkman was involved in the kickboxing club and was an E-board member for the Women Who Lift club.
To prospective students, Bjorkman's advice is to get involved in the Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»community and enjoy all the fun that comes with it.
"Get involved!" Bjorkman said. "Go to activities and go to the parties! Best time of my life."
As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»students, alumni, faculty and staff to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
