125 Anniversary Celebration: Kaitlyn Moon
June 23, 2025
Editor's Note: This is a series of stories about Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ» students, alumni and community members, highlighting their experiences during our 125th anniversary celebration. We will feature 125 individuals from August 2024 to August 2025.
MACOMB, IL - - Growing up near campus, Kaitlyn Moon knew the benefits of Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ» and couldn't pass up such a good opportunity.
"I grew up in Macomb and my mom works at Western, so I was comfortable and exposed to the Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»environment," Moon, a junior Law Enforcement and Justice Administration student, said. "I enjoy staying close to home."
As a local student, Moon has been able to balance the benefits of being in a familiar location while also experiencing the joy of meeting a diverse group of new people across campus.
"I have had a good experience," Moon said. "I have made a lot of friends and enjoyed my classes. It's nice to have such great support from my professors."
She credits the exceptional professors at Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»for preparing her for her eventual future career and providing unique opportunities for real-world experience.
Staying local has been one of the keys to Moon's success and suggests other students from the region keep Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»in mind.
As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»students, alumni, faculty and staff to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
