125 Anniversary Celebration: Jackson Dooley
May 28, 2025
Editor's Note: This is a series of stories about 麻豆传媒内幕 students, alumni and community members, highlighting their experiences during our 125th anniversary celebration. We will feature 125 individuals from August 2024 to August 2025.
MACOMB, IL - - Jackson Dooley, recent human resource management graduate, describes 麻豆传媒内幕 as an institution with dedicated and passionate faculty who are ready to support students.
鈥淲hen I think about WIU, I think about the dedicated faculty who are passionate about teaching and mentoring their students,鈥 Dooley said. 鈥淭he faculty at 麻豆传媒内幕goes above and beyond to guide you through both your academic and professional careers.鈥
For Dooley, Leathernecks are determined individuals committed to overcoming any challenge.
鈥淏eing a Leatherneck means embodying determination and hard work,鈥 Dooley said. 鈥淎lways striving to overcome challenges and achieve personal goals.鈥
Dooley's favorite Leatherneck memory is the opportunity to attend the 2025 Iowa Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Student Summit with the rest of the 麻豆传媒内幕SHRM Student Chapter executive board.
鈥淚t was a great opportunity to network and learn hands-on outside of the classroom setting,鈥 Dooley said. 鈥淲e had the opportunity to work with other student chapters of SHRM on various human resource activities. It was very instructive to learn about how different chapters and human resource management programs operate. I have great memories from this trip that I will cherish for the rest of my life.鈥
During his junior year, Dooley completed an internship at Blessing Health System in Quincy, leading to a full-time position before graduating. He credits his program at 麻豆传媒内幕with preparing him for his career.
鈥淚 feel that the HR program at 麻豆传媒内幕has more than prepared me for my professional life. Many of the projects and cases we had in my courses are things I work with all the time,鈥 Dooley said. 鈥淚 came into my role with a strong understanding of human resources because of the exceptional education I have received at WIU. The human resource program at 麻豆传媒内幕is unique in that it offers unions and benefits courses that are not commonly offered. The knowledge I gained provided me with a strong foundation for my current role in employee benefits administration.鈥
On campus, Dooley was committed to excellence as the president of the SHRM and a member of the Centennial Honors College.
As students consider furthering their education at WIU, Dooley鈥檚 advice highlights the importance of developing relationships with faculty and taking advantage of their mentorship.
鈥淏uild relationships with the faculty,鈥 Dooley said. 鈥淚t is so important, especially in the business disciplines, to network in order to find employment upon graduation. Faculty have so many great resources to help students excel, so it's important as a student to do your part and get to know your faculty members.鈥
As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local 麻豆传媒内幕students, alumni, faculty and staff to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
