Editor's Note: This is a series of stories about Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ» students, alumni and community members, highlighting their experiences during our 125th anniversary celebration. We will feature 125 individuals from August 2024 to August 2025.

MACOMB, IL - - As a Macomb resident, alumna Alix Potter always felt a deep connection to the Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ» community.

"When I think about WIU, I think about home," Potter said. "Growing up in Macomb, I truly do bleed purple and gold and always have."

From an early age, Potter has experienced the Leatherneck spirit through her parents.

"My parents have both worked for Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»my whole life, so to grow up in the Leatherneck community and now be a Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»Alum is an honor," Potter said.

Potter's favorite Leatherneck memory is meeting her fiancé in class and working towards their goals together.

During her time as a student, Potter was a cheerleader, serving as captain and being recognized as Cheerleader of the Year in her senior year.

"Now, I am working as a cheer coach for multiple organizations, whilst also training to become a pro cheerleader/dancer," Potter said.

To prospective students, Potter's advice is to remain faithful and strong in pursuing their goals.

"Trust in the Lord. He has already written what is meant to be. All we can do is have faith and work hard to achieve the goals and dreams he has put in our hearts," Potter said.

As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»students, alumni, faculty and staff to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
