        +

Streamlined Content Management: The NCE presents a clean, uncluttered interface that emphasizes the core elements of your course. Its intuitive design, featuring clear visual cues and readily accessible "Create New" options, simplifies the process of building and organizing your course materials, particularly for those new to content creation in Brightspace.

Enhanced Course Structure:With the NCE, content is organized through "Units," "Lessons," and "Folders," encouraging a more logical flow and preventing overly fragmented course structures. This systematic approach helps you to scaffold learning effectively, guiding students through a clear progression of topics.

Intuitive Editing Interface:The user interface for creating and modifying content is significantly more streamlined. Editing and deletion options are conveniently located within easily discoverable ellipsis menus, making adjustments quick and straightforward.

Persistent Left-Hand Navigation: A significant improvement in the NCE is the consistent display of the Table of Contents on the left side of the screen. This permanent navigation panel ensures that both you and your students always have a clear overview of the course structure, making it easier to jump between modules and topics without getting lost.

Improved Student Experience and Accessibility:The NCE's visually pleasing interface and clear navigational pathways are specifically designed to boost student engagement and accessibility. Content is presented in a focused, readable format, minimizing distractions. Students can often interact with activities directly within the content area, creating a more cohesive learning experience.

Future-Ready Platform:All forthcoming features and updates from D2L Brightspace will be integrated into the New Content Experience. By embracing this transition, faculty will be positioned to leverage the latest advancements in educational technology as they become available.

      • Differences Between New Content Experience and Classic Content
        +

While the NCE offers a modernized approach, there are some diffeence in how certain features operate compared to the Classic Content Experience we are used to. It is helpful to understand the following differences between the two experiences:

Feature/Aspect Classic Content Experience New Content Experience (NCE)
Visual Design Characterized by a traditional, list-based layout with prominent folder structures. Features a modern, minimalist design with distinctive color-coded modules or units.
Content Organization Utilizes modules and sub-modules, allowing for extensive nesting. Employs Units, Lessons, and Folders, typically limiting content organization to three distinct levels, promoting a flatter structure.
Navigation The Table of Contents sidebar may not always be visible, and navigating deeply nested items often requires multiple clicks. The Table of Contents sidebar is consistently displayed and easily expandable, facilitating smoother navigation with fewer clicks to access content.
Course Overview Page Includes a dedicated "Overview" page for general course information. Does not feature a standalone "Overview" page. Any content previously on this page would need to be incorporated into a regular course module or unit.
Bookmarks Provides functionality for students to bookmark individual topics. This bookmarking feature is not available within the NCE.
Individual Content Descriptions Descriptions for singular content items (e.g., files, external links) are often prominently displayed. Descriptions for individual content items are generally not displayed directly within the content view, although descriptions for folders or units will appear.
Visual Completion Tracking Students commonly see visual indicators (e.g., checkmarks) for completed topics. While overall completion can be tracked via the Class Progress tool, visual completion indicators (checkmarks) within the content modules themselves are not presently available for students.
Bulk Content Editing Offers tools for performing bulk edits on multiple content items simultaneously. Bulk editing capabilities are not present; content items must be edited individually.
Scheduling and Visibility Start and end dates can typically be set for most content types directly within their settings. Scheduled start and end dates are not available for all content types (e.g., units, lessons, folders, HTML files, external links); visibility is primarily controlled through a simple toggle switch.
Activity Access Engaging with activities might often open them in a new browser tab or window. Students frequently have the ability to interact with activities directly embedded within the content area, creating a more integrated learning experience.
Content Reports The option to access reports is often available directly within the Content section. The "View Reports" option is not directly accessible from within the Content section of the NCE.
